About Me
I am an Assistant Professor of Applied Mathematics at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (FUM). I am interested in both mathematics and biology, and in particular I explore biology-inspired mathematics: I aim to harness approaches, aesthetics, and techniques traditionally originating in mathematics to derive biologically meaningful insights. A high-level introduction at an undergraduate level to what I mean by biology-inspired mathematics is given in this 60-minute talk (in Persian). More technical introductions to some of my research interests can be seen in my published papers. I have also applied my research to medicine (see my publications). My research concerns Optimization and data mining, in particular, Optimal Control, Fuzzy Optimization, Recurrent Neural Networks, Biomathematics, and Data Mining in Medicine.
Before joining FUM, I was a postdoctoral researcher at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences (MUMS) School of Medicine (2022-2024) where I was graciously hosted at International UNESCO Center For Health Related Basic Science and Human Nutrition by Prof. Habibollah Esmaily and Prof. Majid Ghayour-Mobarhan, and before that briefly also two postdoctoral fellow at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (2020-2021) and Faculty of Mathematical Sciences (2021-2022) at FUM where I was graciously hosted at the Department of Management by Prof. Alireza Pooya and at the Department of Applied Mathematics by Prof. Sohrab Effati.
I received my PhD from the Department of Applied Mathematics, at the FUM, where I was fortunate to be advised by Prof. Sohrab Effati and Prof. Ali Vahidian Kamyad. Prior to that, I received an MSc in Applied Mathematics, in which I was fortunate to be advised by Prof. Sohrab Effati and Prof. Reza Ghanbari, and a BSc in Applied Mathematics, both from the FUM as well.
During PhD position I was supported by Iran's National Elites Foundation (Shahid Vezvaei award). I am also the recipient of the Best Paper Award for Best Paper and Presentation by a Student or Postdoctoral Researcher at the Second International Conference on Knowledge-Based Research in Computer Engineering and IT in 2017, of the Prof. Alavi's Award for the Best Paper at the Third National Seminar on Control and Optimization in 2019, of the Top Selector and Star Student Award from vice president for academic at FUM in 2019, of the Best Researcher Award from Faculty of Mathematical Science at FUM and Quchan University of Technology in 2018, of the Best Educational Lecturer of Faculty of Mathematical Science at FUM in 2021. After PhD I receipted the Shahid Shahriari and Shahid Chamran Awards from Iran's National Elites Foundation.
I am currently serving as Special Editor of Control and Optimization in Applied Mathematics (COAM). In 2020, I was the director of publishing committee in Joint Congress on Computational Intelligence at FUM. I served on the executive committee for the 44th and 55th Annual Iranian Mathematics Conference in 2013 and 2024 and the First Seminar of Control and Optimization in 2017.
